Hi there,
I am delighted and excited to announce the release of our new love song ‘So Glad I Married You.’
The Song’s Origin
From Memoirs to Music
It says in two short verses what it took me two memoirs to write about. And while, for me, my ‘House of Glass’ was religion, each person may have their own ‘House of Glass’ from which they need, or needed, to escape to find happiness and love.
The First Version
In a sense, this is the second iteration of the song. And yet it’s a whole new song. The original version was a Christmas present for my wife two or three winters back. Andrea Patron had given me an exquisite melody and I sat down one day on the wonky, black chair in my office and lyrics came to me from my subconscious.
I hadn’t expected the words that came nor its love theme. It was a personal song of gratitude for my wife Ruth. But, to my delight, Andrea was happy for me to go with those lyrics. He and I worked on the song, finished it and we asked Gavin McCaffrey to sing it. I played the recording to Ruth one Christmas morning, while our son and daughter listened.
All three liked it. But that iteration was very personal, and Ruth felt embarrassed when it was played to other people.
The Evolution
A New Collaboration
So the song hibernated for another winter or two. Then Andrea and I began writing songs with The Rayne aka Bryan Matthews, a wonderful singer-songwriter with an amazing story and a gorgeous voice.
The three of us worked together to create this new song, So Glad I Married You, on the foundations of the old one, kinda like the Basilica of St Clement in Rome was built over the buried temple of an ancient religion.
From Personal to Public
‘So Glad I Married You’ had a sneak preview at the launch of my second memoir Saved by a Woman last March.
Around that time, I found the song so powerful that I welled up every time I heard it. I reckon that’s a good sign. It hits on some truth. If I didn’t feel it, nobody else would. Boy, did I feel it! Brother, did I feel it!
